Job Title: Standby Police Officer

Location: Owensville, Ohio

Job Type: Part-Time / On-Call

Position Overview:
The Standby Police Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety in the Village of Owensville. This on-call position requires officers to be available during designated times to respond to emergencies, disturbances, and incidents when additional support is needed. Standby officers must be quick to mobilize, able to assess situations promptly, and work effectively with full-time officers to uphold the safety and security of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to calls for service when activated by dispatch or supervisory personnel.
  • Provide law enforcement support during emergencies, including incidents involving disturbances, public safety threats, or natural disasters.
  • Assist full-time officers with routine patrols, community engagement, and incident resolution when needed.
  • Perform basic investigative duties, gather evidence, and document incidents following department protocols.
  • Ensure effective communication with dispatch, supervisors, and other first responders.
  • Engage professionally and respectfully with community members to foster trust and maintain a positive public image for the department.
  • Uphold all department policies and standards, including adherence to local, state, and federal law enforcement regulations.
  • Participate in mandatory trainings, debriefings, and briefings as required by the department.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or training in criminal justice or law enforcement preferred.
  • Certification: Must possess or be eligible to obtain Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification.
  • Experience: Prior law enforcement or security experience preferred, but recent graduates with OPOTA certification are encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Strong communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Must be able to react quickly and efficiently in high-stress situations.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the physical duties associated with law enforcement, including prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasionally strenuous activity.
  • Availability: Must be able to respond to callouts within a reasonable response time and work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: Competitive hourly rate with additional standby compensation.
